Decided to try to repair the polypropylene (plastic) gas tanks for both my stepsides. The gooped up one was a crack someone fixed but started to leak, and the other one is the tank that was on the black truck. Didn't think I'd be able to fix that one but it came out ok. Gotta use polypropylene to fix these or the repair just won't hold.

Only why I have gotten polypropylene to weld and hold was adding more of the same material. Simply melt it in.

That's how they're made, melting plastic as it rotates. I used to make Hummer fuel tanks and we would fix them the same way when they had pinholes, just melt some into the hole until it's good.
