This is my Dart Restoration thread, as requested. It's more of a clone/tribute/ripoff build than a proper restoration. I'm building a 67 Dart 270 into a 67 GT wannabe that might morph into a "what if?" 67 Hemi Dart build. We'd all love a Hemi, right?
Anywho, a little background on my Shart. I got the car in 1999, I think. It had a blown /6 that just happened to knock the starter off the transmission, making the drivetrain useless. I got a 360 from a guy and a 737 from a junkyard and some Schumacher conversion mounts and in they went. Didn't fire the engine or anything after the install, but felt pretty good.
A year later I moved from the suburbs out to the country with a good friend who got me into this mess. He mentioned something about how free the 360 spun. Out with that engine and in with one from a 73 Dodge truck by way of my 89 B250 van. A good rebuild that went like snot in the van. Not so much in the Dart, with the open headers and all. I put maybe 15 miles on the car up until I moved in 2009.
Today the car sits in the garage, which it never did except by police order way back when! I've been getting my Polara more and more roadworthy the last few years, so my Dart has donated an engine, a trans and some other odds and ends to the Polara, being very gracious every step of the way.
I've acquired another 440 and 727 along with a 68 /6 k frame, 11 & 3/4" discs and 73 up upper control arms, manual steering gear, 90/10 shocks, tti headers, just picked up an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold and a new .484 cam and lifters.
Also bought me an aluminum water pump and housing, mini starter, bulkhead connector, complete front end kit, thanks P-S-T, and I have a complete interior, bucket seats , console and door panels, plus all the outside trim, grille emblem, fender emblems, and tail panel with emblem, for the proprwr cloning/ripping off to make this a GT.
