I'm thinking about renting my truck and a trailer. What do y'all think?

I found this article on Hard Working Trucks and was thinking about adding my truck and a trailer for rent on Fluid Market. As anyone done this yet?

By looking at Fluid's website it looks like all the insurance and liability is covered. What do y'all think... is it worth. I don't use my truck every day, it would be nice to make some extra money from it.

rent a cars get the worse abuse than company cars . i would be very causes on who and what its use would be . i think if it was me , i would be the driver in every case . insurance companies , does not cover the drama you put yourself in to .

Great point Paul. It does sound risky. Maybe I'll just do the trailer. That's pretty low risk.

My 2007 Ford F-250 that I'm thinking about renting is not worth too much so it probably not very risky. I would like to get more opinions, anyone else have thoughts.

I wouldn't - sometime stop and visit a rental place and see what their equipment looks like. I was in one last summer with my trailer and he couldn't believe it was almost 20 years old, he pointed at one of theirs and told me it was 2 years old, all beat and battered and ready to fall apart.

Who covers repairs and danages to your truck? You getting reimbursed by the mile or by the day?
Then there is the harassment buy official's in communities where your truck maybe stopped for violations.
Who goes and gets it if for some reason it breaks down hundreds of miles from home?
How does your insurance company feel about it?
As far as the trailer NO. Trailer see more abuse than trucks especially from the if it fits it should carry it crowd.

I know how I drove the stepsons diesel, and he was sitting next to me! I wouldn't rent out anything of mine, unless I had just won the lottery.

Thanks for the responses. I looked further into it with Fluid Market and it sounds like everything they rent is covered by their insurance. Damages are all covered, and so is towing. There are also smoking fees and fuel fees (for when the truck is not returned full). Tickets and automated tolls are paid by the user renting the truck.

From what I can tell on the website, pricing is a small fee ($25) by the day plus ~$0.30 per mile. I keep track of my current maintenance costs, so I know it costs me about $0.12/mile to maintain it. That's a $0.18 profit per mile plus the daily fee.

I keep thinking, if rental companies make money, why can't I? Yeah, it might wear down the truck faster, but with the money, I earn I should be able to buy a new truck sooner.

I don't know. I'll keep thinking about it.

once i loaded my 69 d100 adventurer shorty to a friend that only needed to move a dresser . now her way back she changed her shoes to sandals . her foot slipped off the brake and hammered the throttle . need i say , it was totaled . cost me to get it towed back . and never a payment to replace it . again out of pocket . so now if your want to use my truck , i come with it . if anyone is to wreck it it will be me . and it always come back safe n sound .

Sorry to hear about you 69 d100 and it crashing. That sucks! Letting people borrow your truck is super risky when you don't go through a company that insures it.

I ended up posting my truck on Fluid Market, I'm trying it out. I'll let you guys know how it goes. My first renter has it now and is returning it tomorrow. Fingers crossed everything goes well.

I've not done it yet, but it looks like I can block out times so no one can rent it when I want to use it. It'll need a little planning ahead. I guess I can block it out last minute if the truck is not rented at that time.

About 4 more hours until the truck is returned. Fingers crossed it comes back in one piece.

The truck has been returned. Rental report: 35-hour rental, $50 for the 2 day rental fee, plus $0.30*134 miles = $40.20 for mileage.

Total Earned: $90.20
Fluid Market Fees - $18.04
Total Earned: $72.16
Minutes of Work: 8 minutes

I'm gona keep the truck posted for rent, easiest job I ever had. I'm wondering how much I can make a month...?

I wish you well. I wouldn't do it I less I had a spare truck that I was willing to part with. Not saying anything bad will happen, but I'm a pessimist in situations like this. So $62 (after tax) for 2 days? That doesn't sound like much income. For the 8 minutes it's not bad, but still, doesn't seem like enough.

Yeah, you're right. It does not seem like too much. I'll see how it goes over the next month.

Like Locu said I wish you well with it, I wouldn't rent out mine. I only let family use it.

I guess it is more than it makes sitting in your driveway, but I'd think there's some way to get a better return. There must be a demand for borrowing a truck if Uhaul has them, but I wonder if they do it to lure you in on a big truck rental later on more on a subliminal level.
