Dads ol dodge

With it moveable under it's own power I put it on the lift and reworked this miserable LMC exhaust! They expected me to duck it under the frame (visible in the front fender) then run it down the outside of the frame (see post 419).. yeah right where the parking brake cable it? I didn't waist any of it but cut it all up and welded it back together to come up with this, much better. I'll wait until the rear bumper is on to finish it.

It is almost finished, looking really good. I don't remember if your using those wheels? They need paint to go with the rest of the resto if you are using them.

Nope, we bought him some new rims, I opted to go with 18's. We already had a tire mounted on one to see how it would look.. huge improvement! The ones that are on it hold air and I don't care it they get filthy so until it's done they're staying on it.

Had a setback with the core support, wrong year, buckets weren't recessed deep enough so out with the welder again.

While I had it out I decided to make some changes to the bumper. Welded all of the headache rack holes, bumper mount bolt holes, straightened it and got rid of that horribly ill fitting corner! It's getting painted black to match the bottom of the truck so why not.

yeah Fark LMC. I won't spend a dime with them. Still waiting on my catalog I called and asked them for back in like 2008/2009ish... they still refuse to acknowledge that Dodge even built such a thing as a truck, earlier than 1994.... yeah Chevy, Ford and even International Harvester all teh way back to 1947. They don't need my money anyway. Dodge started building trucks in, what/// like 1918? C'mon guys....

Oh and as for your truck? In the 1st couple pix of what you started with it looked like an exact twin, to my '83 that I used to have, color and all.... I still kick myself for selling it, that was a damn good truck for me.... the guy I sold it to still has it, it's sitting for a few minor issues (he isn't "mechanical" in the least..... have a little issue and stack em like cordwood, just go buy another til IT breaks.... last time I went there my truck had been sitting "it won't run".... for a damn DISTRIBUTOR CAP grrrrrr) I miss that truck. I might have to get it back.

Make sure the chrome is ground off before welding, the chrome can give off toxic fumes. Bumper looks good

I ground a V in it and left a small gap to fill, probably didn't get it all but it's done and I'm fine. Didn't know that about chrome, many other things but not chrome.
 
Best I can tell that ugly big gap was engineered to protect paint and sheet metal. Hope your dad never hits anything with the corner of that bumper.

That bumper is 1/8" thick at best, wouldn't even take a 5mph hit without pushing it into the fender to begin with.
 
Finally finished the bumpers and got the two tone on the truck. It hasn't been easy the last few years trying to find time to get this done but it's literally a few small steps away now. I bought a rear bumper off of a 2010 Ram, took quite a bit of cutting and welding but I'm really happy with it vs the factory one.

That looks awsome, I'm a fan of fitting parts on trucks that didn't come that way, the 2010 bumper with exhaust cut outs looks amazing, I assume you will be putting on dual exhaust and using them. Great work! Love the colour too!
 
Really looking great! You mentioned doing a bunch of cutting and welding to the newer bumper - was that all internal/mounting brackets, or did you have to change the external shape of it, too? Fits beautifully.

Both, these bumpers are pretty thin and require a lot of support so the mounts all needed reworked. On the bumper itself although the trucks are close in width the newer trucks recess the the sides into the body and wrap them quite a ways forward. I probably added 1-1.5" on both sides, chopped a bunch off and reshaped the area where it wraps around.

Just added Halogen headlights and got new coils and tail light sockets ordered to wrap most of it up... After that it's alignment time!

I'm not liking how low the front end sits, hopefully new coils help that out?

They might bring it up if the old ones are weak. Looks good in this pic. Is the hoist down and the truck on the ground?

Yes the lift is down, there's about a 2" difference. I didn't think it made any sense trying to raise it with almost 40 year old coils in it when that alone might do it. They'll be here Friday so we'll see but even if it gets it close I'll be happy.
