Well I got the back bed wall fixed right, but whoever put it in with pop rivets and bondo left the original seam sealer on both the lip they left from the original bed back wall and the replacement both, so I started welding and popper farted and blew holes instead of what I was after. So I had...
I've seen a plastic dummy shaft advertised for not a terrible lot of money, when you draw it out after pressing it together there really isn't much tension on the shaft as it comes out
Too long to use in most presses. But if you don't use something to line up the splines as it goes back together you'll never get that OD back on.
I bought a used original output shaft and cut it down.
Ugh. I've always done everything I can to steer clear of Toyota and all the other foreign manufacturers right along with them. Maybe even a better reason im building an 80s d250 from the frame up...
I bought the tool, I have had a 12 ton press of my own to use it with for years.
My dealer transmission buddy just had a big drill press that didn't run in his shed, that he used as a press for that spring but with his setup it was a 2 person deal.
I've done a few of those 518s.i have a 500 apart now, have to press that OD section back together. That's for another truck I have. Actually have the adapter as used in the 60s to put a SB trans behind a /6.
well, a setback.
I got the frame all blasted and primed, looks fantastic. Lots of new parts arriving, making the wife not too happy with me.
Got the cab out of the barn that we've had it in for the last 12-15 years, and home into my garage last weekend.... Now for the setback... I see that at...
nope. this one don't have one behind the axle. Those would be the Ramchargers. This one is inside the frame at front of bed, driver side. Plastic tank.
As title says
Only want NOS or good used. No aftermarket crap because I haven't had one of those work right yet
application is 83 D250 with 30 gallon tank.
I found out mine is a Dodge versa, numbers on attached tag put it as a 1999 model.
Not worried, that's why there's 5 speeds including a granny and an OD. It'll be fine for what I'm doing
Would not have come with a 42re trans. They were discontinued with the 3.9 around 03.
And though I put a 46RH behind a 3.9 they wouldn't have come that way. You're probably dealing with a 545 RFE trans in a truck that new
I too am wanting to run one of the 4-5 thermoquads on my project...
Actually 2 projects. One just a de-lean burn and 4bbl swap and the other a ground up build.
If a 66 trans they made changes a couple of years later. Something called "part throttle kickdown" was added about 1970. There have been threads about adding this feature to older tranny's.
I think the ones before this only kicked down if floor boarded. This might be what you have going on
I haven't yet, I'm in the middle of running a garage sale to get rid of some of extra stuff to make space so I can work on my stuff again. I'm buried. Having cleaned out moms house so we could sell it, left me packed in tight....
well it's "ON" (as the kids say "like Donkey Kong" haha) I just got a call from the sandblaster, my frame is blasted and primed, it looks GOOD!!! No surprises of swiss cheese-ness after blasting. Only spot is the support gusset that goes 45* to the fuel tank cross member.... and I knew about...
