I found out mine is a Dodge versa, numbers on attached tag put it as a 1999 model. Not worried, that's why there's 5 speeds including a granny and an OD. It'll be fine for what I'm doing

If a 66 trans they made changes a couple of years later. Something called "part throttle kickdown" was added about 1970. There have been threads about adding this feature to older tranny's. I think the ones before this only kicked down if floor boarded. This might be what you have going on
