Hey everyone, its been awhile since I've posted. I've been driving my 84 D150 a lot again, and sometimes not all the time when I've been taking turns I've been getting a rough clank and grinding sound when taking turns, sometimes even just going down the road, and you definitely feel it throughout the truck when it happens, does anyone have any suggestions what to look at? This weekend when I have a day off from work(hopefully) I'm going to drop the trans pan and check to make sure there isn't a ton of shavings in there. Because I've been noticing that when the truck is hot it doesn't go down into first all the time at a stop light, so I have to drop it into first. Sticky valve I'm thinking the transmission was rebuilt about four years ago after some sand got into the transmission, pulled and cleaned the trans 2 or 3 times after the overhaul trying to make sure there isn't any sand left over, but still got that kinda sticky valve and sometimes when going into reverse the truck also locks up and won't go backwards. it'll roll forward after letting go of the gas, so you have to put it into neutral and give it a few seconds and then back into reverse and go. U joint's were replaced about 5 years ago, I'll take a look at them as well and make sure they're still good and lube them up.

Checked the motor mounts, they seem to be fine. Dropped the pan Transmission filter and fluid looks great. Just need to check the Transmission mount and U joints. other than that I am out of ideas on this thing.

Mine does something similar when I take turns. Only happens within the first 1/4 turn of the steering wheel for me, it will constantly do it if i keep it there for the turn. I was told from another d150 owner that there is a body seam by the fender that's bad for that, also thought mine could be an axle shaft but your's shouldn't have that issue being a D series.

I had the sound happen real bad last night coming out of the drive way at and angle and the front tire coming off the curb and the truck rocking.

The control arm bushings and ball joints been checked?
That and the steering box location on these allow some frame flex. Some models have a added stiffner at the box location to help control it? If the situation gets bad enough the idler arm will over center on left hand turns, the passinger side front tire will make a hard left turn and lock in place. When and if that happens turning the wheels to the right will bend the drag line and the frame even more.
Best find the problem before possible serious damage is done.

I'll check them over the weekend. I've parked the truck until I can figure this out. But the sound only happens when taking turns. But the sound and vibration sounds like it's coming from right under neath the cab which lead to the transmission and u joints, but the transmission seems to be fine by pulling the pan. But I'm also starting to wonder if the bearing in the extension housing is going bad and causing the drive shaft to shift and bind up.

If the sleave bushing in the transmission tail was bad the slip yoke seal for the driveshaft would be leaking. Never hurts to look but don't think you will find the problem there.

That's what I thought, I have a small leak from the transmission but it's from the speedocable. I'm gonna drop the drive shaft this weekend as well and check the u joints, and then move to the front end. If it's none of that I don't know what else to think.
