The Story Of My 66 F 100

General Information

In 1974, I was getting my drivers license. My Dad showed me how to drive a straight drive vehicle in his 1955 Dodge 3/4 ton pickup. I really liked the Dodge, it was in great shape and had the 241 V8 "semi hemi". Well, he drove the neighbors Ford pickup with the twin I beam suspension, and really liked it. So one day we stopped in at a used car lot and found this 66 F100, complete with cattle racks built into the stake pockets. Asking price of $995. He traded the Dodge and was allowed $300 for it. ( I still have the paperwork) He drove the Ford as his daily driver from 1974 until he got a new F 150 in 1990. Then the 66 was semi retired for a while, and eventually parked in the barn. It set for several years. and Dad kept talking about getting rid of it. I told hime I would like to buy it, but he would never give a price or let me do anything with it. One day a few years ago, and found it setting in front of my garage with a big red bow wired to the grille? My Mom convinced Dad to let it go, and they made it my early Christmas present! So I have been playing with it for a few years now. The pics show how it looked when I got it with the 1970's camper shell and the 67 T Bird hub caps that Dad had installed. I removed the camper and put on new wheels and tires with wide rear wheels and tires for the "big and little" effect. I had a nice set of 57 Ford poverty caps pulled from a car I scrapped back in the early 80's, and they worked out well on the truck. I have done a little mechanical and cosmetic work, but it still needs a lot. It has the usual dents, dings, scratches, and rusty places of an old truck. I find it amazing that when I drive it, I get more attention, thumbs up, and comments from pretty girls about the truck than I do with my shiny Mopar muscle cars! LOL
