Our 01 Durango is starting to show it's age. 328k miles the body is starting to fall apart all at once, and some mechanical problems starting to show up that I am having problems finding parts for like the abs control module that mounts to that big aluminum block under the hood. I can't find one even in the junkyard. Still running and driving fine.
Was my wife's daily driver for Many years. I've taken it over for the last couple of winters. Her current 03 Durango also having issues, just ordered a radiator and it r only holds Freon for about 2-1/2 days before blowing warm again. I am fearing it's the evaporator in the dash which I did on the 01 a few years ago and don't feel like doing again on this one. Only has half of the miles but is only 2 years younger. That will probably become our spare, our 3rd vehicle, my winter ride
She found a super clean low mile 2016 Dodge 1500 she likes. Only 68k miles and not driven at all in winter since 2019. Seller has a rusty 05 Dakota he uses for that. Only thing it don't have is 4wd. I didn't think they made that series of truck that highly optioned as a 2wd. Has more bells and whistles than I ever imagined a truck would ever have. It's a hemi with the 8 speed auto. Who knows what about this engine and trans, even as a lifelong Dodge truck guy I have zero experience with them. What kinds of pitfalls can we expect
What are common things to break, wear out, have to fix sort of thing?
One thing I DON'T care for and have seen some expensive parts bills on Ford's for is the electric power steering system. This will be our first vehicle with that. I'm used to a belt driven pump, hoses and gearbox (or rack but I prefer gearbox steering especially for a truck)
