So I'm heading out to go to my very first dirt track race. The local 1/2 mile track is hosting the United States Modified Touring Series, the big dogs of modified I'm told. Last year's winner was from Texas, and the guy who won last night in Iowa was from Mexico, so they might be good if they come this far to race. A nice hot humid night for some dirt track initiation. I've heard the local boys run, but never saw them, should be fun!
That was fun. I forgot how much I love the smell of race gas! Two cars went over the wall (very short walls) and one car barrel rolled. No one hurt and fun was had by all. Those modified cars look insane drifting through the turns at the speeds they were at and how close they are to each other. I can't get over how much those cars can cost, puts my projects in perspective, money-wise.
No, I was near the Starting line down low in the bleachers so I didn't bother, bad angles, poor lighting, and me doubting my phone. It was a great night. Now I need to go see some sprint cars, wish the world of outlaws came closer to me than Wisconsin.
I almost went last year.
A buddy has a 78 LeBaron with a Super Six and we were going to go head to head on their open night. That would screw with people. They'd think they were watching the race in slow mo.
Been years since I've been to one too. My wife had never been and wouldn't you know it, the wind was out of the north and we got dusted pretty bad and that wasn't too good for her wearing contacts. That night there was a couple of WoO cars there doing some practice laps for the coming weekend and they were pretty impressive sounding. Found out later that they run 750 hp engines in them things. I would imagine they run more now as this was several years ago.
