Glove box spring on a 49 F1

I am nearing the end of a long build of a 49 F1 and am having issues getting the glove box door spring on.Can anybody help with a way to do it?

Here is a picture of what I am attempting. I can get the spring on but as soon as I move it the spring flies off. It doesn't appear to be the correct spring
 
I used only 1 spring the left spring in your picture. Note: In the first picture (100_3650) I cut a short piece of rubber tubing and split one side of the tubing to prevent the hinge from contacting the bottom opening of the glove box.
