Hey fellow members, I'm new here and want to introduce myself. I go by North Penta Star, this indicates that I'm located in the north (north western Alberta) Penta Star referring to the Mopars that of which we speak and not any prowess that I may possess.
I have been collecting dodge products for years and have always had a soft spot for the 72-92 dodge trucks. I have just acquired a 1974 Dodge stepside (utiline) with what may be a package on it. It has a black base paint job with blue stripping work and says Sidewinder on the tailgate. I was wondering if any of the members here may recall this package. The truck was built in Warren Michigan and the work may have been done as a commissioned piece.
Thanks in Advance guys, will post my progress in the future.
    Jeff

welcome, great project. Dodge did several limited edition trucks in the '70s, can't say I've heard of a Sidewinder.

What engine and drive train? Maybe it laid down snaky rubber trails.

According to Google, Dodge built a Sidewinder concept truck for the 1997 SEMA show. Maybe a previous owner was inspired by that. Was it a hand-painted name or a decal?

It is all hand done even the blue on the tailgate decal is painted over the plain white decal that Dodge used, but I was thinking maybe this truck (or trucks) may have inspired the Dakota concept as this truck was done up like this already in 1979 when I first encountered it.

Hey Guys I just wanted to give you all a bit of an update on the "Sidewinder", upon tear down it was discovered that it has had colision damage to the passenger side of the cab in the past. The extent of this damage is not lethal to the restoration just means that I will be doing more work, ain't that the way it goes. The majority of the work will come in the way of sheet metal repair to the passenger side cowl and heater box firewall mounting area. The real kicker is the cracks radiating from the steering box mounting holes and a few areas that have been pulled into alignment from the previosly stated collision, also one of the previous owners "notched the frame horns to fit car radiator into it. All this has lead me to the path of frame repair/replacement. Right now I'm leaning toward shorting an '82 long bed frame from a "Miser" truck. as cracking around the steering box holes can't be fish plated to back up and reinforce any welding done there. So I'm now waiting for some nice weather to sand blast my frames for this job. Cab and box will be done then as well. I have gathered some parts already such as floor pans new fenders and a donor door. Also some other used parts, found in a complete heater box to replace the mangled one from the Sidewinder (note that this was not mangled from the previously mentioned collision damage but from some deluded attempt at installing an A/C unit from a Chevy van) as well as a Radiator and shroud, yes the metal one that looks so good chromed, arm rests and sun visors. I will update with photos after the blasting, fingers crossed on the weather.

Back in the 70s there were plenty of regional package trucks from Dodge and it's distribution network.

I picked up this '79 Power Wagon mid eighties, had the multi colored stripes, and had Big Horn on the doors. Only one I ever saw. Had the bucket seats and console like the Lil Reds. Big Horn.jpg

As far as I could tell it was just a decal package. The truck was in pretty good shape except for the bed above the wheels. I did get another bed later, but ended up selling it for an '85 Power Wagon...which turned out to be the only POS Doge I've ever had. There are new Big Horn trucks in the States as well.

Cool, I'm happy that Dodge still feels there is value in the package route to differentiate trucks and allow for personal taste.
