I just threw some fresh head gaskets on my 318 which is 40 over with 360 smog heads and 2bbl intake and carb. I don't know if it could be that the carb is sucking to much vacume or if I have another problem. It starts I guess dying when I get above about 2300rpm and then when the revs come down it starts running again. I don't have any work in the heads at all and I'm running stock manifolds and a mild cam.Tia

What is the manifold vacuum at 2300 rpm? Does the tack rev redculess rpm or just stay at 2300? You need to check base timing and see if the distributor is advancing both mechanical and vacuum advance

What "7Mopar" said is all true and good advice and I'm only saying this because I just went threw an issue with a fresh build were at idle and in my drive way the motor was running fine . But when I took it out for a test drive at certain RPM's it would want to die and spudder and then at idle it would be fine again . It turned out to be the choke butter fly closing up from the vacuum of the air sucking down the carb . Sometimes it's the little things that drive you nuts and are hard to figure out .
