Looking to buy a set of headers for my 78 LRE I can by a set of Flowtechs (ceramic coated) for slightly more than a set of Hookers uncoated. Any thoughts? Plus does anyone make a good set of transition pipes to tie into the factory stacks from headers?

Thanks

My 1st question is do you REALLY need them? A few thoughts - if you are stock you will only gain about 15/20hp, they make it VERY hard to tie into the factory stacks (thanks to a gas tank sitting along the drivers side frame), and will most leak at some point. But if you are sold on the idea I highly recommend Hedman Elites - not cheap but they fit great and look great for a long time. As for tying into the factory exhaust, just get with a good local exhaust shop there is nothing off the shelf that will bolt in.

I am keeping all of the stock stuff together, but thinking of using a 408 stroker in there for some fun and the headers would work better with that combo but not loose the stacks (factory look). I seen a video on YouTube where the guy made his own exhaust (3”) and did an awesome job. You would think that someone would make a kit I would imagine it would be a popular request.

10-4 - I did the same for a few years and yes with the 408 I would go thru the trouble of getting the exhaust done.

As for a "kit" I would say you are highly over estimating the size of the marketplace.

You could get a set of 'shorty' headers like the ones I use on my A100. The ones below are coated .... I bought bare steel and had them coated locally - worked out cheaper to me. Speedway Motors. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Patr...t-Tuck-Header-Mopar-Street-Rod-CC,301696.html

I also have an angry little 408 in there.....these headers are much quieter than the Hooker Super Comps I had originally....and take up less real estate. Also they should be a lot easier to connect up to the factory stacks - if you find a decent exhaust shop, they should be able to set you up.
