Got a friend who has 78 W series 4WD (mil spec) originally equipped with a Dana 60. He has swapped a Dana 70U from a 91 Dodge 2500 Diesel into his truck. Now he has obtained a Powerlock out of a 76/77 vintage Dana 70. Can the Powerlock be installed in his 91 70? He's getting ambiguious information from a local 4WD shop who would be glad to sell him a brand new unit. He wants to know can this swap be done or not.

BTW he will sell the original 60 and matching front axle should anyone be interested in them.

Go to the Spicer website and look for a downloadable PDF file X5109DSD. It has parts diagrams, part numbers, dimensions, etc for all makes of trucks that used Spicer or Dana differentials from 1978-1998. For 67-78 years, you want the X510-8 file and for miscellanious truck models from 79-84, get X510&DSD. I have the 67-78 file downloaded and it's pretty cool, has every bit of information you could ever ask for, ratios, gear case numbers, axle lengths and so on. Many people say the Chevy front differentials in the '70s are the same and will interchange with Dodge. They may interchange, but the catalog shows that the xle lengths are slightly different, emaning you might be able to swap the entire front differential, but not certain parts between the two.
