73-81 Dodge D100 Tailgate- Can an 85 tailgate be made to work?

Anyone ever try using an 81 to 93 tailgate on a 76? how different are they? Not a show truck, just looking for a functional gate.

Looks to me like an 82 - 93, but I've never really studied the earlier ones so can't promise accuracy. And the only earlier one I have here is a stepside.

If it helps the 82-93 gates were 66-7/8" wide. I am not positive but did not the older gates just have Dodge on them? I do know the complete bed will interchange.

that is an '82-'93 tail gate. I would think it would work fine.
