Hello!

I've got a '72 D100 with the 8.75" rear end that I'm looking to replace due to excessive wear to the housing. I've looked just about everywhere for spring perch spacing on the '72-'74 8.75, but in all the tables and charts I've seen, they're notably absent. I took a measurement of the springs on mine to guess the c-c spring perch spacing (43 1/4") and I was curious if that lined up with anyone else's measurements or books.

Thanks in advance!

This is what i found:

The rear axle spring perch spacing (center-to-center) for a 1972 Dodge D100 (2WD) is approximately
43 to 43.25 inches.
Key 1972 D100 Rear Axle Details:
  • Perch Spacing: ~43.25" center-to-center.
  • Axle Type: Commonly equipped with the Chrysler 8.75" rear differential, which was used on D100 trucks through 1974.
  • Overall Width: Approximately 64.375" (59 7/16" housing width) drum-to-drum.
  • Leaf Spring Width: 2.5 inches.
  • Interchangeability: Rear axles from 1961-1993 Dodge 2WD 1/2-ton trucks will generally interchange, though widths may vary slightly (e.g., later 9.25" axles are similar or slightly wider).
If you are fitting a different differential housing, ensure the spring perches are set to 43.25 inches on-center to match the D100 frame width.
