Dug a 42RH out of a 92 Dakota today. Gonna put a 5.2 Magnum and this thing in my 87 D150. Currently running 3.55s in an 8 1/4 for rear end with 30" tires. Thinking about throwing more gear in it, but will decide after I get this thing running and see how I like it.

PLAN is to get this going and then rebuild the front end in a few months. THEN get someone to body work it an paint it up.

As it sits right now...well actually I threw the 42RH in the bed after these pics.

Little set-back today...JY Magnum motor has no compression on cylinder #4...blows out the exhaust port during the test. I am assuming bad exhaust valve at this point. More digging tomorrow, but I don't see how this motor isn't going back to the JY.

Pretty clean D. Sorry to hear that about the engine, hope you get it straight soon. Remember the 42 has a lower first gear so that will act a lower gears to a certain extent. You going to run carb or EFI. If EFI stock Mag or aftermarket? Been thinking about the same combo in my Challenger.

Plan to run a Chinese Air Gap intake manifold with a Carter 600 cfm carb I took off my long gone 74 4x4. The 42RH (at least initially) will be controlled by manual switches in the cab for 4th gear/lock up. The serpentine brackets and FI manifold & TB are up for sale over on FABO.

The truck is already running the GM HEI conversion and I will dial in the distributor to the new motor...if I ever get it built.

ATM I am letting all the cylinders soak in ATF, I pulled the rocker arms off the number four cylinder oiled up the stems and re-installed. Valves are moving, but obviously the exhaust valve was in the open position for a long time in the JY and either the seat is messed up, has something blocking it or the stem has a rusty spot on it.

The whole point of picking this motor at the JY was for the warranty. We will see Monday if that works out. Very worst case scenario I am building the 5.2L because the JY welched on my warranty.
