Hi all, I had started a build thread in the classic Dodge section of the forum but it seems to be quite hidden and, as this is my first restoration, I'd like to reach more people to get more input.
The restoration is of a 1972 Fargo 1/2 ton 2wd pickup, Fargo was an export-only rebadge of dodge to be sold at Plymouth dealerships in countries with lower population density, and thus fewer Dodge dealerships. This truck spent most of its life on a farm in Alberta as an Adventurer Sport with a 318 and 3spd auto. I imported it to Ontario last summer with plans to restore and change a lot of things.
I've been wanting a simple vehicle so I've decided to mostly convert my Adventurer Sport into a regular old custom, with that will come a 4 speed and a Slant 6 from a 1972 John Deere 800 series swather. I'm rebuilding the slant to have a bit more power, but the name of the game for me is fuel economy.
Not only am I rebuilding the engine, I'm also rewiring it, lowering it, giving it a full mechanical overhaul, adding 2 additional fuel tanks, and repainting the truck in Chrysler's Frosty Green Metallic.
As it sits the body is completely disassembled and paint is getting stripped. I've found many more dents and much more Bondo than I had hoped for but overall it's solid. It looks like I'll be able to save the doors, though fenders, hood, bedsides, and tailgate will almost certainly have to get replaced.
