Heya Bear
Well I went through your list of possible problems, and here's what I got....
When I replaced the Distributor I also got a new cap & rotor & plug wires. I replaced my spark plugs about 3 months before the truck went down, and the coil less than a year ago. I only drive about a 100...
Well after 3 days of almost constant rain I got the chance this morning to work on it some more.
First off "Bear" I only had the pump on toggle to do the tests, when all checked out I hooked it back up to the relay, sorry if I didn't make that clear before.
It's always gotten gas after it...
The neighbor never showed, no surprise around here, and yeah I didn't see how it could be timing either, so thanks for the confirm.
Yes some of the plugs are fouled & thats my task for today, cleaning them all again...but they are oil fouled, been an issue for a little while because I have a...
Well Bear, I tried what you said & it didnt work, it still died after a few.
This guy down the street said he'd come over this weekend & try to help.
So fingers crossed since there really is only so much I can do alone when it comes to timing and such.....he seems to think that's the...
Well....I got under there and replaced the old pump....it "was" toast.
Thing is I get under there and it's not set up right. (when I replaced it before a friend did it for me)...anyway, it's suppose to be
tank - pump - filter - carb but mine was set up with the pump & filter switched, so when...
YeahI had to replace it once before back when I first got the truck. The little plastic part of my highbeams switch broke awhile back, and since Im on disability & the want a ridiculous amount for a piece of plastic, I just bought a toggle switch for them....
so I used it to test the pump and...
:smile:Glad it helped you some DJ.
Well the update is ...........
SUCCESS!!!
almost. The truck starts just fine, and man I learned a lot with this whole thing.
But, for some reason my fuel pump has stopped working. It worked at first & the truck wasn't warmed up enough, so had to restart...
I did some more research and come to fing out that the 3 prong plug means that the distributor is ready-to-run and therefore doesn't need to be hooked up to my MSD Ignition, just had to plug it on to a connection that was already there.
I'm not getting any spark from the coil now, so off to do...
Hey...thanks so much for the offer from your buddy Bear......
Sorry I was gone for so long. I was disabled in an accident a few years back and when my pain levels spike, they put me out of it for days on end.
Anyway, the auto parts store here that said that dist. was on back order got it in a...
I ordered a replacement one through Auto Zone, so I took it with me when I went to pick that one up so I could get my core charge back at the same time, but it wasn't the right one.
The Cardone part # for it is 30-3694
But you won't find any results when searching for it at Cardone, Auto Zone...
They've been to short in the casing and in the shaft, and if you compare my pic's to the one bear posted you'll see it's also to short in the lower part of the casing as well.
I already tried the 318 route, as that's what my 238 is, just with 2 less cylinders, found that out when I ran the #...
Bear..... I wish it did look like that.
All of the available Cardone's are to short in one way or another or don't have the right insides, hence my "wits end".
Took some pics last night though, so sharing like I should have done in the begining.
Like I said, the truck worked fine without the...
To keep this simple I'll try to be short. I need to figure out what distributor I can get to replace the one in my Dakota.
This is the hitch. Its a 89' that the idgits that had it before I bought it tried to turn into a race truck. So they swapped out the 4 banger EFI for a V6 Carb. Ran the...
