The various encapsulateors that I've tried seem to work pretty well. Haven't tried to apply bondo over it yet but I did paint over it. It wasn't exposed to the elements so the long term results haven't been evaluated.
Yes, 60-40 is a good wiping solder. I'm just used to calling it by that...
I wouldn't use lead. I've been a master plumber for 40 years. Believe me when I tell you that wiping solder is the way to go. 60/40 or whatever Eastwood sells. Also, be careful what Flux you use. I'd use No carode . Acid Flux will come back to haunt you. Even with No Carode ,scrub it with...
II'm not aware of any controler kits. Would you mind posting what you've seen?
Another thing that I neglected to mention is that the ecm only provides a ground/ground connection. If anyone has more information/experience with this, please post something.
I've looked at the Ron Francis 24/7 and it's gotten quite pricey. Aces has a power distribution center but not sure how much farther ahead I'd be with it.
The thing is, I'm putting a 77 dashboard in my 89. Why? Because I like it better and the fuse box is where God (of your choice)intended it...
After a little more research, I've found the following:
1) you can control the OD on the 518(?) with a on/off switch
2) the cruise control has its own computer/module.
That's as far as I've gotten.
I wish it was that easy for me. Another thing, I've got a 77 dashboard and I'm debating on :
1)moving the 89-90 fuse box to the dashboard (great place) or:
2)buying the Aces
"power distribution box ".
3) I looked at the Ron Francis boxes and :
1)The original is the cheapest way and the most...
I'm going to try to decipher the transmission wiring next. The book gets a little confusing as to what transmission it is . I know it's a OD with the backwards disengage button on the dashboard. A ,500?
On the cruise control, the testing only refers to the ecm being the problem on standard equipped vehicles. I really don't want to find out the hard way. Also, I'm sick of looking at all that wiring. Even though I wrapped it all with purple electrical tape.
The harness from Aces is petty...
I'm with you on the 88-91 being crap. The 92 I think is a magnum so ,they actually work.
I went with a Aces joker system for my 89 d100. It seems pretty complete but, I don't know what else is controlled by the factory ecm. You know like, cruse, etc. Anyone ever used this setup?
It's probably what you read and where you read it that gives you a answer on if it's worth it or not.
I'm wondering if anyone here has done this? If I just need the case,it might be a good starting point. I'll have to price the:
1)axles $600?
2) differential $900?
3) breaks $1,000...
