    Timing issues

It was, I corrected it. Both dots are straight up and rotor is pointing at the oil pressure sensor.

    Timing issues

It absolutely does. When I had the after market "thermometer " in place of the original sensor it would run great from a cold start but after it got warmed up it didn't want to start. I put a new original type sensor in and that solved everything. Now I have this BS I'm trying to figure out.

    Timing issues

I understand that, I have bought bad ones. The old one I took out and put in an aftermarket sensor for and aftermarket 3 Guage cluster. BRAIN FART. Once I realized the mistake I made there, the old one was long gone. I'll look up how to test them. I did notice the factory Guage don't move when I...

    Timing issues

I suppose it's possible. I'll have to go through the book to see if there is more then one sensor. The one that I know of is new. I didn't see another one while the motor was out. Computers suck but the truck was $500 6 years ago and ran so friggin good.

    Timing issues

I am in full agreement with that. That is the same advice i give people when they ask me for help. I brought the #1 to TDC on the compression stroke, pulled the chain cover and distributor cap. Both dots were up and rotor was pointing at the oil pressure sensor. I put the new chain and gears on...

    Timing issues

Hey all, I need help. I have a 1989 dodge d100 3.9. The thing ran so good before. It never didn't start, never left me stranded. It was a great little truck. I recently pulled the motor and trans to regasket and clean everything. New oil pump and timing chain while it was apart. Now I can't get...

    Vaccume line removal?

Maybe so but it doesn't look nice under the hood. End game is I have a 318 to put in it and then I can get rid of almost all of the vaccume lines. That's a project for another day though so I can build it the way I want it and be done.

    Vaccume line removal?

Hey all been a while since I posted on here. I've been working on my 89 d100 and now I have a question for anyone that may have done something like this. The truck has a 3.9 fuel injected engine, I'm pulling the motor and trans to regasket everything and clean it up. I would like to clean up the...

Lowering the front of an 89 d100

Well thanks anyway guys but I put it down in the ground last night and it sits way to low for my taste. I'm going for a nice stances truck not a snow plow. I now have to modify the stock arms to take a 3/4 bolt. Oh well. Thanks again.

Lowering the front of an 89 d100

Ok everyone. I know there is a million posts about this but I have a specific question about this. Hopefully I'm not the only one this has happened to. I completely rebuilt the steering and suspension in my 89 d100. I bought 2" drop shackles for the rear just to reduce some if the rake from...

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

Old gear has 350/917-3.90 stamped on the side and nothing that makes sense to me on the top. New has I'm guessing manufacture numbers and that's it.

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

I am a manual machinist. Can you post a picture of the depth tool you have when you have time please? I might be able to make or just buy one. I'll check the new and old pinion gear when I get home from work to see if there is a depth stamped on one of them.

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

Even if I'm not doing it all the time I'd still like to know how so if I ever have to do it again I'll know. I'll look for that tool. Are they make specific or universal for all makes and models with a diff?

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

Oh. Ok. Well as much as I hate to say it I guess I should take it in. I hate paying for something I can learn to do but everyone I know says pound it on with an impact and I know that's not the right way.

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

How do I know if the pinion depth is right?
  16. Littlered89

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

Ok so set the rolling torque, mark it, disassemble and reassemble with new seal and lock-tite on the pinion nut threads? I just checked and I do not have extra bearings. I do have 2 seals and 2 crush sleeves. I just really want to do this right so it can be my daily driver again.
  17. Littlered89

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

Yeah that is weird. I'm mainly confused by the rolling torque and then crank it down to 210 ft/lbs. I assumed the rolling torque was the preload and wouldn't the 210 mess that up?
  18. Littlered89

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

I just mean if the carrier is correct side to side so the mesh is right and the bearings should be torqued to 70. I don't know. I do have a Chilton manual on the way I hope that will help. Not sure if I have a trial bearing but I do have 2 crush sleeves.

Pinion bearing preload and gear mesh

Hey everyone, I got another question. This is my first time rebuilding a diff. 1989 d100 8.25 I am replacing everything (gears, crush sleeves, bearings, and seals) I looked in the Haynes manual but its not very clear and I have looked online and none of it makes a lot of sense to me. I am...
