Hello all! I have a 2000 Chevy Silvarado HD 2500 4x4 base model. Has the 6.0L in it with the RL80E ( I think ) I know it's the 80's series. First off I bought it from a Farm auction knowing it had a knock in the engine. In reality it had a broken rod. Got an '02 6.0 and had it put in before I drove it 1 foot. I always thought the transmission didn't shift right. Then 1 day, it quit shifting out of 2nd gear. took a to a tranny shop where they found oil in the plug that plugs into the transmission. At that point it was decided that a $600.00 repair was better than a $2500.00 rebuild. Fixed it and the truck shifted again. Until. Until now. As previously mentioned it won't shift out of 2nd gear as a general rule. Once in a great while it'll shift from 1st to 2nd then that's it. Truck & transmission has about 227 plus on it and the drivetrain. Warned against flushing it. Has anyone else had any issues like this?

I had something similar with the 46re in my Durango before with the oil in the electric plug. The 2nd gear only thing is limp mode
Dreading this but for the first time in my 59 years in actually shopping GM instead of Dodge because we have outgrown our 2 durangos. I need something bigger. And no way to Ford (an expedition with a v6 won't work) is this what I'm in for? Looking at tahoes yukons Escalade and suburban. Would prefer the 6.0 or early 6.2 before about 2017

Don, my truck was used as a farm truck. Keep that in mind, okay. My truck also has 227 thousand miles on it before i got it. Keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that I did not know how the truck was driven before I got it. Just know that I do like my truck. Before this last episode I drove that truck flawlessly 129.0 miles, used 6.36 gallons of gas @ 19miles to the gallon. I was shocked. Now then! If I do a flush they tell me that I do not want to do that. Why? because it'll plug up air vents and puke tranny fluid everywhere. Done that been there already. Also they tell me when whoever does transmission flushes doesn't normally do them correctly anyway. See I'm told that when you do a trans flushing your suppose to pull the torque converter away from the engine and flush it seperately. Most shops don't.

Now then! 7/1/2026! I got in my truck and drove it today. As was,,,, trans was in Limp mode and didn't shift till I got to the lumber store. Then went straight to the local Walmarts. Was in Walmarts for about 30 minutes. Came out. Got in the truck. Started for home and the trans shifted beautifully for about 1 1/2 miles, then went back into limp mode again.
