Hello all, my son is looking for an older Dodge pick-up truck... Prefer v-8 and around 70's or 80's time period... He has an ad on FABO, but he's not a member of this forum, so I'm copying his ad and posting it here to see what's out there...

Hello all, I am looking to buy a running Dodge D series truck.

It has to be a V8 and I strongly prefer a truck with a manual transmission.

I don't care much about cosmetics, as long as the truck isn't rotted.

I'm located in southeastern NC and am willing to travel to the surrounding states for the right one.

PM me if you have one you are willing to sell.

Any leads are greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you can't get a hold of me on here, I'm on FABO regularly with this screen name...

I have an 87 D250, 3/4 ton, 318, factory 4 speed truck & I just installed a new clutch kit. (Luk kit) It's Pa inspected, but does have some rust issues, but very common for these trucks. It has it's good point though & I use it for hauling scrap metal. I will sell it for the right price, (what I have into it) $3000, if your interested. I am in S.E. Pa. near Philly. Not easy to find a decent driver in this area. I will answer any questions you have if your interested. Don't have to sell it, it is a money maker, but cash talks. Let me know either way. (

hey krazy//// I have been truck shopping too, and would like nothing better than to find a clean low mile D150.... 70s-80s/
problem is where you and me both live... I'm just down US45, about 1/2 hour from your town....
Ive seen some real ridiculously priced ones lately.... look on autotrader "classics" and you'll see what I mean..
That said I just happened on a site yesterday that had some spread throughout the country that were more realistic.
I have my eye on a couple I discovered in Tx and 1 in Nevada.
theres an 87 W150 on a car lot by me that claims 36k original miles but I don't think so.... and 1 spot on frame that bugs me. and the idiot thinks he's gonna get "within a couple hundered bux" of $12,900 for it? Gimme a break already.
I have an 85 in my garage Im just getting a good start on, finally got the PO-butchered engine comp wiring squared away....
seems like the only way to get a decent one is to find what you can and "build it" yourself. Mine is a longbed, slant 6, 727. This one is staying /6, I have one I am building on a stand right now and making some "improvements" along the way, possibly among them I'm thinking of adding a homebrew turbo setup. Still "on the fence" about that part of it.
I just returned from GA with a trailer load of rust free 80s D/W series doors and fenders... NOT something I do regularly/
also 1 more thought.... a couple months ago in that "Illinois car and RV" magazine by the doors at many gas stations, there was an 87 shortbed, /6 truck listed in tehre, that came with a 318 motor/trans for a swap, laying in the bed, the black n white pix can sure hide alot of rust haha.... never went to see it for myself, cant vouch for condition but it's in the area. there's a couple guys my son knows around Homer Glen and Lockport area that mess around a bunch with these particular trucks, my son "horse trades" with them all the time.
and, along with my 85, I may be gettin my old 83 D250 back soon..... hafta wait and see on that one. but I'm hopeful. Sold it to my cousin about 30 miles south/east of here, he's not very "mechanical" I know it needs a few things. But with all I did to that truck, I'd love to have it back.......
In the meantime I have been shopping newer trucks ('08-16-ish model year) even though I'd rather have either my old 83 back or find a creampuff while I redo my 85. problem is I DON'T want a crew cab with a ridiculously short bed. like 99% of all pickups sold since around Y2K have turned into. Why is it so damn hard to find something with 8ft bed, reg cab with a Hemi, in something that isn't white? My Dakotas are tired. I need something a lil newer as a daily while I get my 85 done, at least.
Depending on whether I get that 83 back, will tell what of this rust free GA sheetmetal I will have left, once I get going on the 85's body..... I know now I have 1 set of doors and fenders that can go, so far..... some is slightly dented up (seriously not bad at all) but that is better than fixing rust!
PS; being youre kind of "in the area, have you ever been to that Eastwood store on IL rt 50 about 1/2 a mile north of I-294? Cool store! and they have how to clinics on various bodywork topics on weekends (well, they did, before Covid and hope to restart them soon. Saturdays theyd have how to clinics that you'd have to pay usually $25-50 for, Sundays are different topics and (were) usually free.

He's going to love it!!!

I have an 89 LE, 318 with 518 trans. Not really planning on selling it as I currently use and love the truck. But anything can go for the right offer.

I had to get mine from Saskatchewan, everything in Ontario is rotten, if it's not rotten it's Barret Jackson pricing. The 80s body style is extremely popular with gen X and first few years of millenials. I know as soon as I brought mine home I was offered 3k more than I paid for it - and turned it down.

Good luck on your seach, you may find getting anything in decent shape will cost more than you hoped.

Far cry from a 70s or 80s truck but as long as he's happy with it comgrats.

Yeah, we wanted an older one, but couldn't find one in the condition that he wanted... He needed a runner, not a fixer upper... He found this one only a couple hours from his home.... It also has a 9 1/4" axle with a 3.21 sure grip...

The body is in good shape, and the engine runs good, just a few minor glitches to fix and he's already working on them...

He tinkers with motorcycles, quads, lawn mowers, generators and needed a vehicle to use to pick them up and haul them around with....
