I have an 02 Duramax 1 ton Dualy crew 4x4..my problem is, the salt during the winters have finally done their job to my chassis, creating rust on everything, chassis, suspension parts and springs..

my question here is, Has anyone tried the new Rust-oleum rust encapsulate paints, that are in spray..works sorta like POR-15 without the mess...but needs to be painted after treatment..

Im seriously thinking about using this stuff

any cons or pros appreciated..

thanks

I have used Eastwoods rust encapsulator in a spray can. Never knew Rust-Oleum ever made such an animal.

I have used the Rust-Oleum on a dash that I had painted for my Duster. I stipped it down then painted the whole thing with it. Then I primed and painted as usual, it came out great, covered well and was really smooth. I don't know how well it lasted as I sold the dash frame and the car before completeing it. But it looked great when I sold it. Don't know how much this will help but I liked it.

Save the aerosol cans for the kids toys.
The right way to stop rust on those parts is blasting to remove the rust and applying 2 coats automotive epoxy. You can brush or roll it if ya have to.
Anything else is merely a band-aid fix.
Second choice would be sand paper, wire wheels, picklex 20 then an acid free epoxy.
POR and everything else would be my last choice.

There are numerous rust prevent paints such as rust-olem which you can make use. Just get the best option.
