i noticed this a long time ago but never knew why they did it...mopar, and chevy do it and it sucks.if you get behind one on the hwy they look like they're dog tracking.it has to be 2-3" difference from front to rear....per side.anyone know why?

Traction . That way while in four wheel drive your rear tires aren't in the same foot print ( or groove ) as your front .

I seen in some old dealer advertisements a while back that it was for turning radius . It helps them turn tighter than everyone else.

i thought about getting wheels with different back spacing on front and rear.....

That would be a B!tch come time for rotations. That's why I mentioned spacers. So you don't have to spend $40-$70 to mount/balance tires on different wheels.
