I picked up my engine from the machine shop the other day and this part was in the box with the rings, bearings, etc. Maybe I'm having a senior moment, but I don't remember seeing this when I tore the engine apart.

That looks like Part of a engine stand used to suspend the engine while being rebuilt, maybe it was yours before it went to the shop from your stand? Maybe from there's?
 
Too small for an engine stand. Only 4" long. 3" center to center holes.
I'm thinking the machine shop mistakenly threw someone else's parts in my pile.

That attaches to the front lower timing cover and hangs down to support the trans cooler lines. There are usually two, but not always.
