Switching from a 9 1/4 to an 8 3/4. Am I looking at a driveshaft change or modification?

The nose on the 8 3/4 is about 3/4 inch longer, so the driveshaft should be about that much shorter. It may be possible to stuff the 9 1/4 shaft in there and if it's not abused to badly it may work for a good long while, but I had mine shortened to make the same swap.

I'd shorten the driveshaft, 3/4" is a lot of difference.
