My friend has a 1999 Durango with 4.7 liter V8 in it. It has overheated several times and now running really bad. We figure it is probably done for and are looking at salvage for a decent used one. In 2008, a re-design of the 4.7 boosted power and performance. I had hoped to find a later model for the swap. Now, I am told that I can use up to a 2002, that one is 16 bit and the other 32 bit and NOT interchangeable.
I had hoped to use the basic engine and use original external parts for proper connections, I was told I could use up to a 2002 model but that is prior to the re-design. I would prefer a 5.2 or 5.9 with cast iron heads, not aluminum, but probably too many different parts to be an easy swap. Any one have experienced this swap and shed some light on these engines?
