Thanks a lot for posting the great pics. I was wondering how you got the output shaft in the right position and the pictures speak for themselves. Looks pretty good sitting there.
Power steering from a '79 Dodge truck? Could you please post some pictures of your setup and how it mounts to the frame & interfaces with the straight axle? I would really like to convert mine to power steering, but haven't decided the best way to get it done. I really don't want to put a...
Yeah, so would I :) Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I bought a '57 Chrysler Windsor 2dr coupe and it has been taking all of my time and priority so no progress on the truck at all. It has been collecting scrap metal in the back from all of my projects (axles, trannys, motors etc.) and...
Thanks for the kind words :).
I didn't want to see a lot of the hardware like on newer builds so I used flathead screws from the inside, and the old pockets are so tight that I haven't needed the upper panel connectors. The tight pockets make it more difficult to remove the panels, but I'm not...
This is my '57 D200 flatbed dually. It has the original 315 poly motor & 4 speed with 4.10 gears. I rebuilt the bed using Malaysian hardwood and 1/8" steel plate over 3/4" birch plywood with tie-down straps all around. I am building a 354 hemi industrial/marine motor for it and have a divorced...
I can answer this question for you because I went through the same process when I did a conversion on an old VW Bug. Since after you do the frame conversion, you will no longer have the VIN from the '42, but you WILL have the new VIN on the frame of the Dakota, you will need to go to the DMV and...
My definition is 1975 and older since that is how the smog laws are defined in CA. Really it is the smog laws that restrict everything you would like to improve on your older vehicle so getting out from under them is the main classification that many people use. However, I am aware that some...
Hello, I'm new to the site. I have 1 truck that I am trying to make more useable. It is a '57 D200 dually flatbed. I rebuilt the bed using Malaysian hardwood with 1/8 steel plate over 3/4" birch hardwood sheets to make it last. I also put tie down straps all around and on the inside to make it...
Actually, the '57 Dodge truck used a PAPER VIN that they put in the glove box. It never had a VIN on the cowl or anywhere on the body. Fortunately, they at least put it on the front driver's frame where you found it. Only problem is if you want to modify the front section of the frame, you could...
Just use a steering wheel puller and vibrate it as you turn the screw. The hard part for me was getting the horn button off.
I had my box rebuilt because the play in it seemed more than it should have been. When I got it all back together, it was exactly the same. The play isn't in the rest of...
What you are describing sounds like the typical '64 and older smaller axle like the 8 3/4. Does this still apply for a 3/4 ton axle or a dually axle like most of the D200's came with?
