Just bought turn signal switches for two of them last summer at NAPA. I don't remember what year/make/model I looked it up for (may have been a GM) and I can't go look at the boxes because I'm deployed on the other side of the world right now. A friendly (and good) parts store will pull out the...
That wire should never have that much (amps) going through it. Even a dead short in the alt you can't get more than the regulator can supply. But... if the regulator went full melt down first then it might be close to as much as the battery can shove, that's way too much for a wire that size...
The first question to ask is what is your intention with it when it comes to using it later (street-rod, work horse, weekender, show truck, etc.)? That will guide your thought process as you go.

All big blocks were the wide width, non A/C had driver side inlet, A/C were passenger side inlet.

I'm...
Do yourself a favor and don't do it. I've had these trucks with headers in, nothing but a pain in the ass! Shortys will usually fit but are still in the way of the starter/wiring. Long tube usually end right in front of a cross-member! A good quality set that ACTUALLY fits like they're supposed...
