    74 should have a poly tank inside the frame rails. I would have dropped it and checked the fuel pickup screen and cleaned the tank. Sniper kit will be a great improvement.     Have you replaced the old rubber fuel lines? The original lines were not exactly made for today's fuel and can and often suffer from interior hose failure. When that happens, fuel get blocked. You may also want to check the fuel pickup in the tank. You say new fuel system, but we don't know what...

    Get us a vacuum reading. Surge could also be electrical. What type of ignition is being used. Even bad distributor bushing can cause surge. Also no note of when this surge occurs. Leaves lots of avenues unturned with information provided.

    Unfortunately there will be nothing usable from a 3.9. Brackets are all wrong, pulleys are likely serpentine. If you just have to have serpentine its best to buy a kit.     I don't remember seeing a tag there. Now I'm going to have to go look. DMV tag information got moved from the door to the body post. What you really need is the original build sheet. Don't think I have ever found one in a truck.

    I have been using the bolt in sprags for years. No worries about one spinning in the case. I also have a box full of good old metal parts.

    Durango has never filled the truck bill here. Wasn't even sad to see the Dakota go. No bed it's worthless. The F250, 5.4 gets the same milage as the 3.9 Dakota. Has an eight foot bed. I just wish the Ford could have been had with the 7.3 diesel.

    Thanks for the info. Haven't gotten into the trans yet. Even though I have four plantery units whole buying new billet isn't that expensive. Have yet to see plastic parts in a 727 so this 518 based will be a new experience.

    To many first gem Durango have gone to that grave yard in the sky. Most from under dash electric issues that created mass melt down. The rest suffered drive line issues that were costing more to fix than the value of the vehicle. Still see one on rare occasions.

    727 troubles

    Did you leave the 46 RE basically stock or go with the 4 planetary billet 1- R drum? Have you ever beefed up the od unit? Will be into my first 46 in a week or two. I have gone threw plenty of 727's.
