2001 Dodge Ram 2500 With 5.9 V8 Using Engine Oil

The tittle pretty much says it all. It has 78K on her now. Bought it five years ago off the original owner. The truck was near spotless with 25K on it at the time. Its been a good truck, but it used a quart of oil between changes (three months/3'k) since I had it, now it's using even more. No leaks and I have yet to pull a plug to see if there is oil on them. The PVC system is clean and working. No oil showing up in the air cleaner vent. I'm thinking valve stem seals at this point. Have they been a problem on these trucks?

The automatic trans has has a buzz in it when in reverse, louder as the outside temp get colder. It works great and it was serviced at 65K. The local trans shop who has been in business for years never heard of any noises like this in these trucks. They are knowledgeable guys, but at the time didn't have time to listen to it. It sounds like a pressure valve that has air going through it. Any ideas?

I would look down the throttle body to see if there is any oil collecting in the intake. The gasket the seals the pan on the bottom of the intake will get sucked in then it will suck oil from the lifter valley. It should come in the intake set.

My 727 buzzes loud.i give it a rev in neutral before moving it. Its something to do with a part in the rear of the housing,overrunning clutch? No manual handy to look in. It a common thing, but if i recall it the only fix was a replacement case.Been running mine like that for years.

I second looking in throttle body for oil. Intake was the most common.

Brother in law has a similar truck,lost lockup, convertor is very common.
