Almost like my nightmare. 89 with a 90 harness. The two (in/ out) power wires at the diagnostic connection (drivers side fender) were separated, fixing this gave me power to the coil but...
NO SPARK
PS: they stopped using ballast resistors when they started EFI! I wish it was that easy.
I swapped the tilt wheel from a 90 FWD to a 89 2WD. It requires a little adjustment to the length of the steering shaft but, it's not difficult.
I also swapped the Cruse control and, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with my not having spark! Far fetched as it might be, I'm at that much...
Fortunately, I had two trucks so, I was told by a old timer,
" just cut the rubber on the one that you have to remove/replace the dash on".
Lucky for me, the parts truck had a broken windshield. It did have the self destructing chrome plastic trim piece. Good luck finding one of those!

Having a similar problem with my 89-D-150(318 auto) . The first fix was a frayed wire at the alternator. That worked for a while now I have no spark and I'm baffled. I bought a new 89 3/4 ton van(318 auto) and had no problems what so ever.
Keep in mind that, the same engineers that designed...

Here's a little more information.
1) The 1990 was a 4 wheel drive. It ran before I stripped it.
2) I had replaced the distributor (1989) before I had swapped the harness
3) probably nothing but, the only wireing that I didn't connect is to the rear tail lights and signals.
I know I'm not the...
It's gotta be something simple because I can't find it. The wiring harness got raped around the steering column so I gutted one from a 90. The distributor was replaced before the harness was quieffed . Is there a difference?
