To the first I aggree with you not, because my 1956 F100 had a MustangII-front suspension with disc breakes when I bought it. The first : the breakes gives you a better feeling also at high speed and the suspension is more comfortably then the old ones. The car isn´t not "swimming" on the road.
My F100 got also a additional after market pwr steering from Speedway motors, so now I can turn the steering wheel with one finger... and that´s comfortably !
I don´t wanna miss it !
To the second: I confirm with you !!! It´s a shame, to convert a Ford to a Chevy by build in a Chevy engine !
My Ford has a 351 with a HEI Distributor and drves like a modern car with it.
Also it has a 9" rear axle with the strenght also for more power.
I parted the Pickup in all his parts till the last screw, overhault it or give new parts to it while building it together to the actually performance.
Heres are some pics and a short video from the first drive after 14 month.

@creed247:
Good luck with your project ! Make the Pick up new, so as you like, the 50´s
trucks are rare and nice objects!
