Anyone advice on where to buy a brake booster for a 1972 Dodge D100?
The local Auto Parts store are getting out of stock from there people.
Tried Parts Geek and was sent the wrong part. I should of read the reviews.
Thanks,
Carl

What do you need, the flat wide one, or the stubby narrow version?
I have the original booster but the truck has been parked for 20 years. Master cylinder was dry and booster was rusty. I never tried to get the brakes working as I thought it would be better to replace with newer parts. the original booster is the 11 inches in diameter and 7 inches long not counting the rod that hooks to the brake petal. I am thinking this is the wide flat one. Will the stubby narrow one work the same as the wide one? Rock Auto says they have the stubby one. They also have a send in your part and get it rebuilt service. I have read some bad reviews on Rock Auto. What is the groups experience with Rock Auto?

I use rock auto often, only one bad part in all my experiences. I'm leary of their rebuilding service, mainly because I don't know what company is rebuilding the parts. I'm about to order a bunch of parts for multiple cars, tonight.

The stubby booster will work, it is the one to use when swapping over to a big block, for the clearance of the valve cover.

I always use whatever booster is in the car/truck, until I know it's bad. I'm usually replacing all the other parts, so if I have to swap a booster later, it's not a big deal, just take off the master while swapping the booster. I guess I'm just optimistic when it comes to brakes.

No reason not to until you know it doesn't work. If you have access to a vacuum pump they are not that hard to test. If it doesn't hold vacuum it's no good and if it does use it. You can even check it this way tapping into another vehicle with just a gauge and shut of valve. With no valve just clip a pair of vise grip on the vacuum hose and watch the gauge. Good thing about doing it this way is no master is required.

Thanks for all of the help. I know about enough mechanics to be dangerous. Our 1972 D100 was the wife and I first pickup. Two wheel drive automatic half ton. In 1982 I bought a 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive 4 speed and did a conversion. Six inch lift and 35 inch tires and the dana 44 in the front was failing. Acquired a front dana 60 and a rear dana 70. 4.88 gears and a factory limited slip on the 70. 12,000 Warn on the front and a 20,000 PTO on the rear. The pickup has been parked for the last 20 years and it is time to bring her back. The 60 and the 70 have been completely rebuilt with ab OX locker in the front.
