Anyone thought about relocation of the pesky floor mount dimmer switch to a cleaner dryer location? I realize this would be a simple fix with a 88-92 column. But I prefer to keep the one thats there being it all ready has tilt. Was thinking maybe a heavy duty 3 way switch some where handy.

just the opposite for me...I moved the dimmer back to the floor in my '88 when I had it. I hate it on the column.

Get tired of the floor switch getting dirty, then sticking and next not working. I like the present steering column and wheel. So its not getting changed. But thinking of a way to simply make it an auto dim maybe to expensive.

You using PB blaster or have you found something better.

Couple of times a year! Thats about how often the high beams get used. Once every two years at least for inspection.

Dang, I just found this thread now. I'm with basketcase. I would love to move the dimmer back to the floor in every car/truck I have. Sticking it in the column was a move to make our exports more Europeon friendly, because that's what they were doing. The other reason was to make more money on repairs as most people couldn't fix it them selves. There is literally so mush crap in your steering column these days it's a big pain in the tush to disassemble just to fix one thing. You have directional, emergency flasher, horn, airbag, sometimes cruise control, wipers, ignition switch, and even radio controls on some models. My clockspring went south on my 99 months ago and I haven't had the chance to delve in yet. I want to go back old school, I don't need all the fancy crap. I like to keep it simple!

Just going to do the lube thing for now as I can not decide where to move it but it will not be to the column. That was not a option to begin with.
Present column has tilt, truns, hazzards and horn that is enough. Its an ignition cylinder only with the switch lower on the column.

The only problem with the switch on the floor is making sure there are no electrical shorts on the wiring or terminals. Other than that I prefer it on the floor. Mine is an old school truck, and that's how they were built. :)

Dirt and moisture equal rust. Its a work truck. Its components cover a 17 year period. Originality has not been a consern for years. There was a reason it was removed from the floor. If we like it or not. I have fought the placement for years and do not want it in the column either. To many vehicles in the bunch now with it on the column and all fuction different.
Lubing it has been a part of maintenance. Just like a few other things I would like to and will change some day.

In the 20 some years I drove vehicles with the floor mounted dimmer, I only had to replace one. Add to that it took about 5 minutes! Maybe as they were moving them to the column, they started off shoring manufacturing; "you want soy sauce with that?" I don't know myself but if it comes down to going back to riding horses, mine will have a Pentastar for a brand, LOL.

I've never had to replace a floor mounted switch. bought a few cars with switched that wouldn't work...but a few minutes on a wire wheel and some oil...work like new.

So back to the lub regiment. As I still don't know where to move it. It will stay put.

Any open spots on the dash? Toggle switch or a three position switch is what I'm thinking. Car comes up, flip the switch down and flip it back up when they pass.

Would like to get it a little closer and more convenient. When the time comes it will probably end up in the center console. I need to make some changes to it. Add some more cup holders, phone slots and such.

I guess I am the minority, but I like the turn signal mounted dimmer. What about moving it up closer to the firewall?

What and pock an other hole in the rubber floor mat. No if and when moved it will not be foot activated also will not be column mounted. If a three way is used it will be to activate relays. There is a lot of juice going threw the switch.

Actually, in thinking about it, wouldn't it have been nice if you had a floor and a column switch from the factory and you could use either one! This might require a third (selector switch), but would add flexibility.

A 30 amp 3 way to send juice to floor or column would do that. Or just add a whole bunch of jumpers to one of the old switch and add a new switch.
