i have a 1979 dodge 2wd dually with a 4sd, granny low. I was told that a nv4500 trans ( out of 94 to 2004 5sd) wood bolt right up. has anyone done this?

I have'nt done this swap yet but I'm gunna be helping someone with one in a short bed 360 79 Warlock . So it is doable but some of the thing's your gunna have to concider are clutch ( hydralic or mechanical ) , drive shaft , shifter location , and the trany cross member and mount . Though's are just the thing's off the top of my head at the moment .

The 4500 has an intergrated bell houseing and more then likely you'll have to use the hydralic clutch . What we had decided to do with the Warlock was run a Passon Performance A-855 and use the stock bell houseing . But now he decided to go with a big block and a 727 instead . So the 5 speed idea is off for now , or at least untill he get's tierd of the automatic . lol

I hope your truck still has a 360 right? it will have to be a NV4500 from a 3/4 or 1 ton 2wd 360 gasser, bellhousing should bolt right up but it will have the provision for a crank sensor, no biggie. and it should have the external hydraulic clutch assembly with the gigantic saddle looking monster for a release fork. As stated, trans mount and cross member will require some mods, as well as driveshaft length and the yokes. If possible save the flywheel from the donor truck too, since in 79 trucks had the 11 inch clutch, and 94+ used 12 inch setups.

I am working on a 1979 dodge one ton, it was a old farm truck with a lot of rust. The plan was to repair the rust and make it road ready. I could use a truck around the house and to get parts for the a bodies!!! I have missed place the pics before any progress was made so here some of the things i have done.

The motor was leaking and had water in the oil. I looked on craigslist and found a 360 in a RV. The owner said they could not find the keys and they have not drove it for twenty years. They stopped driving it after they broke several lugs off trying to fix a flat tire!!! When i arrived at their house i installed a new battery, hit it with starting fluid and after my hot wiring skills it fired right up. 200.00 for the motor and the rear end, 37,000 miles! Once i had it home i installed all new gaskets and a new rear main seal. I installed the motor, the transmission with a new clutch and new shorty headers. some more pics oh and the son needed a hair cut!

The truck is a flat bed truck. The plan was to install new 1/4 inch steel tread plate. Make new running boards out of oak with old school shop signs. Then new stacks, like the lil red express. The truck is going to be painted two tone black and maroon. I painted a fire tuck last year at work so i am going to use the left over paint. You can see my booth in the back ground of the hair cut. This has taken over two years. The truck is just about done. I will keep downloading pics to get the thread caught up

I guess not much interest in the old truck? Its just about complete. I did all of tne paint work in the garage. Redid the flat bed, along with new oak running board and hand painted old school signs. I am putting a new wire harness in it right now, from Rons wiring. Here is a couple pics.

Dam , That flat bed came out "NICE' ! What did you end up with for the transmission ?

I still have the granny low 4spd. I will do the nv4500 swap this winter. I am ready to drive it! Its time to haul firewood.
