1987 D250, 318 manual, bone stock. I want to get rid of the computer/box on the drivers inner fender, & replace it with a Mopar electronic ignition conversion kit, because I think it's only for the ignition system. I haven't traced down the wires yet to be sure, but has anybody done this? I replaced my Lean Burn system on a 77 Cordoba years ago & it worked fantastic. I would like to do it to this truck. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Huh? My 87 W250 has electronic ignition (factory) and it supplies only the ignition. I did replace the dual pickup distributor with a single pickup, but that's it.

I'll double check, but I pretty sure mine doesn't have a vacuum advance on the distributor. It has an air pump, a high idle solenoid & what appears to be a vacuum hose running to the box mounted on the inner left fender. It just seems kind of lazy to rev. If I advance the timing, it is much better, but then it idles too high & I turned down the idle to the point where the screw doesn't even touch the carb. I will have to mess with it some more I guess.

Yeah, actually mine had dual air pumps and that sorta crap, but more like a standard ignition than computer controlled.

I'll see if it's connected to the ignition system. Got some minor repairs to make for safety inspection first. This thing just might be a keeper for hauling stuff.

I can't believe they don't even let you remove your emissions B.S. on an "old" vehicle, & one that's not a daily driven vehicle! Old emission equipment is out of date, & a vehicle usually has better emissions when you get rid of it. California is a beautiful state, but too many rules & TREE HUGGERS! It's gonna get worse now. Thanks for the FBO web site JP8. I will see what they have.

Sound like a lean burn distributor. Don't know of anything else with dual pickups and no advance.

Fighting through some issues getting a new to me vehicle running. The p.o. had an engine fire that burnt most of the distributor wiring and it was a real hack job, had to mostly rewire all of it, he had the truck running only on the start p/u so it would only catch as you released the key and there was no advance since it was the start p/u. (The run p/u has vacuum advance but that was no longer wired in on this unit.) Fought with it until I got fed up and simplified everything.

I just looked at my distributor yesterday. It has no vacuum advance device on it. I'm pretty sure advance is controlled by the computer under the inside of the left fender. It runs ok, but I need to sell it, so I decided not to put any more money in it.
