I need some help here I have a 1989 dodge d150le with a 318 tbi I put headers and a cam in it as well as deleted the factory smog pump having issues with truck being boggie on bottom end and pretty sure its vacuum related I need to know what the vacuum sylonode do and if they can be deleted they are normally mounted on passenger side valve cover.

New issues - always, always, always look at the last thing you did before you start changing more stuff. Was the cam degreed?

The cam is and is a computer controllable cam

But was it degreed on install? I may be mistaken but I seriously doubt any 318 tbi has a computer controlling your camshaft. If it does, you have an extremely exotic setup and I wouldn't expect to see any of the vacuum sensors and the like in your original question still in the engine compartment. That is a chain driven camshaft and chain driven camshafts should be degreed on install to ensure the proper valve timing. Many have done the dot-to-dot alignment with the crankshaft/camshaft gears and had no issue, others have had problems with mismarked gears and such and that won't be found without degreeing the camshaft.

Computer controlled timing. Do not confuse that with computer controlled cam timing. My 89 - 360 still has a plan old timing chain setup.

Does it matter on a 89? By 93 the computer just moves timing it to were needed. But then the 93 has a crank position sensor.

Well back to the original vacuum solenoid removal. I have not gotten that far into reinstalling the 89's EFI. I know it will not get installed unless needed and if it has a no purpose for being there it will not be.

Get a elect dizzy, a carb and manifold be done with it that is what I am going to do soon on mine . Oh yeah a timing cover with a fuel pump the truck now does not have one.

I did that when it got stuck in the 82. If the timing cover has the fuel pump access. Just remove the plate and install a pump. The esentric is all ready there

So the computer does not take total control of timing and adjust to engine demands?
I may be wrong about 89, I can't remember for sure if you set the initial with a timing light. The computer will handle all the advance though. The 93 dist is zeroed with a scan tool. The computer handles all advance.
I believe it matters what type of pickup the dist in the 89 has, a magnetic pickup or a hall effect.

The 89 u set the initial timing with a timing light the factory is 10 degrees I have mine at 12 but the computer dose take over timing for most part

I did finely figure the vacuum system out by getting a diagram and re doing it all most of it was wrong when I started truck runs great now
