You will need the case from a 78 big block 727 at least. Will check and see if the 76-78 will work. Anything older and the input shaft will not mate with the out put. It maybe simpler to just find the bb-rb trans and transfer and swap the existing out.
I don't have the book for internal changes after 78.
I would not use a case older than 76. Install all the 85 internals and upgrade what drums and planetarys that need to be. If you stick with a reputable transition parts supplier the parts are not all that expensive.
Just remembering here. You had better check how the converter attaches the crank shaft. Some of those bolted directly to the crank shaft with no flex plate. If that happens to be the case I don't think the converter will mate with the pump drive and input shaft associated with lockup transmissions.
