Has anyone here crammed a big block in a ram? I have a buddy with an '86 d150, 440/727, thinking of doing the same with a 440 I have, I know where to get the headers, mounts, pan, and such. Just don't know what options i have as far as a big block 4wd trans. I wouldn't care if it was a 4spd or an auto, mine is currently a column shift 727/318 truck. I've heard that big block 4wd tranny's are few and far between though. Anyone have any input or advice? TIA

Too bad you're not closer, I have a freshly rebuilt 727 4wd BB tranny sitting in the shop - changed directions a few years back and now not gonna use it. Or, do like I did and have your trans guy play mix n match with a 2wd big block unit and a 4wd small block unit. I'm told that's not really hard to do but you do need one of each to make it work.

what I'd do is a 5 speed NV4500 with the 271 or 241HD T case from behind a 94-02 cummins. Then simply get an aftermarket bell housing for the 440. cost wise, might be a tad more than trying to find a big block 4wd 727, which can be found but $$$.

Just take a BB 2wd as @Polara_500 said and take your tailshaft off the small block unit and there you go. That's what I'll do when I go BB with my 72, I'm a cheap ass so no need to spend $$$.

It can be done. My 86 Power Ram W150 4x4 has a 440 727 in it. The person who did it cut into the front frame rails though to shoehorn it in there.

Must have exhaust from something not meant to be if the frame got cut up. These frame have not changed much from BB/RB days.

Hmmm....not sure. They look like stock exh manifolds.

Could be wrong, but I thought the trucks used a center dump exhaust manifold. I haven't had my 84 with a 400/727 for at least 15 years, so I can't recall.

The one in mine has a center dump on the right side and this huge thing on the left side, you can see the way the frame wa

The one on drivers side almost looks like a motor home log. Passengers side looks like a car. Older trucks dropped in the center both sides.
Did a web search drivers side is definitely not a truck manifold.

Thanks! I happen to have a set of nice car type manifolds I can put on this when it goes into the Coronet. I think the original owner sold it off to a kid somewhere along the line and HE stuffed the 440 in there. (bonehead). Anyway, if I keep the truck i'll put a 360 in it.

The frame edge is only about 2 inches wide anyway so not much was cut off. I'll weld it back up before putting the next engine in it..
