General Information

I bought this 1983 Ramcharger 2WD from a local guy a little more than a year ago. 73,000 miles on a 318 and the 86 year old owner (original owner) put in aftermarket A/C and it will freeze meat. I put an intake, valve covers, carb, and a good looking air cleaner on the 318 while I disassemble and build a 440 for it. Money is tight, so it's slow going on a budget build. The 440 is torn down and painted. I've been gathering the intake, valve covers and headers. I still need to pick out a cam and order the rings, etc...

great pics of the motor and the ramcharger looks pretty damn good for an 83. My 85 is the two tone maroon over gray and up to about a year ago didn't have any dents or dings. Then I let my wife drive it. I had the passenger door pushed in when she didn;t see the pole holding up the carport, then the trim strips were sideswiped on a guard rail and my son mowed the yard and a rock flew out and smashed the right rear curved window. 500 bucks later it was replaced, but the trim pieces had to stay off because no one carries the trim clips for it. I have the royal se package with power door locks and windows, cruise, tilt and the 318 a904 combo. when it is tuned just right I can knock down 17-18 on the highway and about 15 in town. I cheated a little on the tune, I pulled the smog pump and blocked off the pipes and then blocked the egr valve and increased the initial advance setting on the distributor and also got slightly lighter springs for the mechanical advance inside the distributor. A new K&N filter helped a lot along with new plugs cap and rotor. I can get by on regular but it really perks up on premium, even with the factory 2 barrel.
I bought a 65 mustang on ebay and drove to Alabama from texas to get it and tow it home. round trip it still got 15 mpg with the a/c on.

I am always impressed with the attention to detail on dodge engineering. the beefy rear bolt pattern shows it was meant to have asftermarket modifications for more power. Also note the front end as well. double cooling holes for the water pump and the timing housing is ridiculously overbuilt, but I think the most impressive feature is the five headbolt per cylinder pattern compared to most other manufacturers use of only four headbolts per cylinder.

that will be a sweet ride when you are done, strong fast and reliable. enjoy the rebuild!
