Oh, I see.. I wasn't aware, that they switched from metal to plastic on late 70 models for the in cab tanks. But anyway, the steel version should still fit right in... Regarding mileage, also the standard tanks under the bed would fit, but then you would need to connect, place seperate lines...

In fact, long time no use could be the cause... When the vehicle is sitting for a very long time outside, the tank willl "breathe" with every day / night temperature and air pressure change. Especially when the tank is close to empty the humidity of warm air will find plenty of cold metal...

The VIN is actually D14AN9S148126 , without the "1N" at the beginning... The body is definetely from the 70s. The grill obviously was fitted well, but its from the mid 80s. Here´s you VIN decoded...
