1979 Little Red Project

Finally finished stripping the interior so plan to start on the little Red frame tomorrow. Still have the old cab to remove and the fuel tank before sending it off for media blast. I plan to swap the Gold Cab to the little red frame when it returns from Media blasting. Hopefully i'll gt that complete before i have to go back to work.

That heat unit hole is huge. Just do not realize the size of somethings until they have been removed.

Got to work on the Little Red Frame yesterday and its now ready for Media Blast. Stripped all the parts, fuel lines, brake lines, steering box and removed what was left of the cab. Initially i was thinking of using the original Lil Red cab to try and keep as much as possible however with the Floor pans shot and after discovering the roof lip at the front of the cab was rusting from the inside out I decided i would use the Yellow cab. I did't see the roof rust until we cut the skin off for my buddys 32 coupe. Glad i did because i would have had issues down the road.

Looking good, takes me back a couple years to when I was at that point. I'm envious of how much you had to work with. That's the problem with the stuff up here in Wisconsin.

I have a question regarding swapping from 727 Auto to 4 Speed with my Little Red project. I am planning to use a 400 Big block with 4 speed. Will i need to change the floor Hump or will the 4 speed fit without having to change the Hump to the high style. I know the 4 X 4 requires a higher hump but wasn't sure if there is enough room with the 2WD?

The stick trucks had the big hump . If your going to be using the A833 style transmission you'll also need the plastic side piece were the shifter comes out .

Great looking project. I am getting a '79 D100 for my wife within a month (currently sailing on the Atlantic ocean...).
Nice to see what kind of things I have to expect :)

Moved into the garage and on Jack stands for disassembly.Pulled the 8 3/4 as its not a sure grip but have a 9 1/4 321 Sure Grip to replace it.

Back in storage and secured to the wall to make room for the parts Truck and My Ram Truck and Trailer.Getting tired of moving this stuff around. When i get back State side i think i'll plan to concentrate on building my Garage before i go further with this build.

Now all i have to do is figure out where to put everything to make room for my Truck and Trailer.

Now that everything is packed away i think i'll take the Roadrunner for a spin and try out my new Go-Pro camera my Daughter gave me for fathers day.
