This is my Dart Restoration thread, as requested. It's more of a clone/tribute/ripoff build than a proper restoration. I'm building a 67 Dart 270 into a 67 GT wannabe that might morph into a "what if?" 67 Hemi Dart build. We'd all love a Hemi, right?

Anywho, a little background on my Shart. I got the car in 1999, I think. It had a blown /6 that just happened to knock the starter off the transmission, making the drivetrain useless. I got a 360 from a guy and a 737 from a junkyard and some Schumacher conversion mounts and in they went. Didn't fire the engine or anything after the install, but felt pretty good.

A year later I moved from the suburbs out to the country with a good friend who got me into this mess. He mentioned something about how free the 360 spun. Out with that engine and in with one from a 73 Dodge truck by way of my 89 B250 van. A good rebuild that went like snot in the van. Not so much in the Dart, with the open headers and all. I put maybe 15 miles on the car up until I moved in 2009.

Today the car sits in the garage, which it never did except by police order way back when! I've been getting my Polara more and more roadworthy the last few years, so my Dart has donated an engine, a trans and some other odds and ends to the Polara, being very gracious every step of the way.

I've acquired another 440 and 727 along with a 68 /6 k frame, 11 & 3/4" discs and 73 up upper control arms, manual steering gear, 90/10 shocks, tti headers, just picked up an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold and a new .484 cam and lifters.

Also bought me an aluminum water pump and housing, mini starter, bulkhead connector, complete front end kit, thanks P-S-T, and I have a complete interior, bucket seats , console and door panels, plus all the outside trim, grille emblem, fender emblems, and tail panel with emblem, for the proprwr cloning/ripping off to make this a GT.

So this year, I finally did something to the car, for the first time in many years.

I installed a different 8 & 3/4 with 3.23 gears vs the 4.10's it previously held. I also installed Super Stick rear leaf springs. Axle and spring-$500! My buddy realized he wasn't ever going to use an A body 8 & 3/4, and he didn't care about making crazy money so he sold the whole works to me for cheap.

Here's the before shot, awesome I know.

Out with the old.

Still a good unit, I'll hang on to this one, 489 case with 4.10's.

Getting there. Still have the wrong shocks, they barely reached!

Starting to come together.

Back on her own feet. No engine in the car so it looks even, but should be a nice rake when I drop the 440 in.

A little difference in height.

I did get the correct Super Stock length shocks for the rear, just haven't installed them. I also have a complete set of Weld ProStar wheels with an extra set of rear wheels with slicks. Aftermarket axles with the big bolt pattern and I'll be rocking some stylish rims.

Bought a 64 Chevy farm truck. Need something to haul all the crap outa here, this will likely work out cheaper than renting a dump trailer - at least that's the plan, use it for a year or so then resell it. At least this way I don't have to unload everything, bad enough having to load it.

Sorry I'm a little late to the party Mob . You "know" I'm going to be following this build from now on . :)

OK , first question . Are we going to be mini tubbing it as well ?

Second question . Are you going to cut the quarters around the wheels , like they used to do back in the day ?

Third question , It look's like you had an 8 3/4 in it before . If I'm wrong tell me . But if so , then why didn't you just swap out the chuck's ?

I know , Questions , questions , questions . But you know how I am Mob . :D The gears are turning ! lol

I think it's gonna end up that way. I have 275/50(60)/15's that I plan on using, and they won't fit the stock setup, thanks FABO! But I need to get large bolt pattern axles installed first.

Glad you're back, hope things are going well!

I haven't made up my mind on that. I originally was for sure, now I'll just see how I feel when I get that far.

I got another complete axle assembly with much more street friendly gears, went from 4:10's to 3:23's. The axle I took out, was looked over by the seller, slapped together and sold to me when I didn't know much, so I just put it under the car and went with it.

I'm torn between getting a newer car for Laura and throwing all my spare money at the Dart. I'm not sure what's happening at work, we went from 7 days a week 24 hours a day to 5 days a week, basically down to a little over half of what we were capable of running. The cereal business is dying and my company hasn't done the best at keeping up with the current trends. They keep saying it will be different in six months, so I'm leery of getting a big loan without knowing I have a secure job. (The car in want to get is pretty cool but it's down in North Carolina!)

So this showed up today:

I initially received a big box a week ago, all excited like a little kid on Christmas, only to discover to my horror, thatbinwas sent a Chevy 454 cross ram with dual 4 barrels! Tried calling the seller, who I couldn't get a hold of. He ended up calling me Sunday night and called the shipper to pick it up. I checked tracking every few hours til I saw he got it. The the waiting game, would I get it by Saturda? No, but it came today, I feel better, and I can't wait to mock it up on the engine. Who knows when it will actually get put on the car, but who cares, it's awesome to look at all by itself!
