1979 Dodge Warlock

What in mine? My '67 has a 383 in it!
Ok then , Like I said in the other thread . Then do something with the 383 B block . There dam good motors and if you use the right parts you can make a B block work real good in your application . The key with the 383 over the 440 would be that the RB 440 already has a lil more torque over the B block and your going to want some bottom end torque to pull that size truck as well as spin those big heavy tire's . But you can build that into the B block . Hell you could even pick up a B block 400 punch it out 30 over use a bottom end out of an RB 440 and come out with somewhere around 451 cubic inch's . Now pick the right parts and you'd have a killer motor , more then enough torque , more then enough power and you'd still be able to get pretty good mileage . Once again , It's all in picking the right parts and not going overboard . People have a tendency to loose track of what there final goal is when they build motors . I know that's kind of the pot calling the kettle black in my own case , when in the middle of building my motor I decided that I wanted to go fast . But I do try to build them per application .

Yeah. I know what I "COULD" do.,... its just a matching number truck and the only way I'd change it, is one of I could find good 440 915 heads (Closed Chamber heads), and then I'd have to change the water pump (My truck has a 383 built like an industrial 413), with the big odd-ball water cooled heads, with a 4 barrel, 383 intake! So.. Not that I'm really "looking" but you know the size of the truck just to have a 426 Hemi resting between its frame rails would be cool as snot.... Just to have one, you know? Not that the 425 lbs of torque and the 335 HP is bad, don't get me wrong.... I've thought of add more of a bumpy stick too.... Just haven't.

But thats just it. IF I were to find a 426 Hemi to put into it, and had the $$$$$ for the engine, it be the only way I'd yank that 383 out (I'd SAVE and store the stock factory 383) But Just a "mild" want, to own ya know?

Thanks guy's , I've been pecking away at it a little at a time . It's been kind of tough working on a tighter budget lately . I've been working on putting a better cooling system in it with a big block B Body 27" radiator . I've also been fighting with a tranny pan leak . "Yes" a simple tranny pan leak . It's been pissing me off . No matter what gasket I use , glue or no glue , It still comes back to haunt me . You would think , an aluminum pan to aluminum case that I shouldn't have any issues at all . But put it all together and wait a day and you see a couple of drips from the gasket area . I "hate" leakers , so this drives me nuts . I'll try and get some up dates with pictures of everything soon .

Read the thread from start to last page. Sweet truck, Bear. Love it/ Swedefish

Thanks Swedefish , I do appreciate it . I'll tell yah , Even though I'm far from done , It's a blast to drive and I've caught a few people off guard , thinking it's just an ole Dodge truck . lol

But, it IS an old Dodge truck!

Well I guess this would be as good a time as any for an update . Progress has been a lot slower then I had planned because of the heat and humidity we've had this season . Plus , the lack of funds hasn't helped either . But I have done a few things as well as driving it whenever I've had the chance .

Well thanks to mother nature I had to address an issue that I knew I'd have address sooner or later running this motor . Cooling ! Even though I had a fairly new stock truck radiator , I knew it wasn't going to be enough in the long run but at the time I was building the Warlock's engine , I just wanted to get it out on the road . So I ran with it . Well , with triple digit temps . Lucifer said heck "no" ! I originally had two plans . Either a big aluminum job or the biggest Mopar radiator I could find and make it fit . Well this mint 27" Mopar radiator kind of fell into my lap one day , so the decision was made . It came out of a 69 big block six pack car . It's really about 26 3/4" or something like that . but I just call it 27" to keep it simple . Now you know when building anything , nothing can be as simple as just swapping out a radiator and be done with it . I made the radiator fit and it "just fit" . But now the lower hose was on the wrong side . Mine was on the passenger side and the radiators was on the drivers side . Enters the hunt for a water pump housing . Now normally this wouldn't be an issue . I'd just go into my stash and grab another housing . But "surprise" , the three totes that I had full of housings were gone and all I found was this early wedge housing . The water neck is on the correct side but the alt. bracket is different then the one I have on the truck .

So the hunt is on for the correct housing . Enters a buddy of mine and say's he has what I need . After waiting about three weeks he finally calls me up and says he's got it . I go grab it and bring it home . But something doesn't look quite right . There's no upper ear for the power steering pump bracket .

After looking high and low for a housing I could use , I ended up robbing the one off of my wife's 383 HP motor I have on the stand . With the promise that I would return it as soon as I eventually get another one for the 440 . So thanks to her , there's no more running hot issues with Lucifer . Personally I think the swap came out pretty good , If I do say so myself . I think everything look's like it belongs there . lol

You only need power steering for parking, those front tires make it even easier.

Too bad you're not closer, I have a couple extras laying around..
That's true All I should really worry about is trying to keep it straight when I hit the gas .lol

Something tells me , if we lived closer together , we'd be getting into even more trouble then we do now . lol

I also got kind of tired of looking at those sun baked door panels . So I decided to recolor them and fresh'in them up a little . Here's a before and after shot .

I'd probably have my crap done if you lived nearby! I get distracted easily when I'm working alone, the girlfriend's not the best project manager, but she is the best criticizer!

You just made me think of what I'm going to need to do with my truck when I drop the 440 in. All I have to worry about is an alternator, as I'll be putting duel electric fans on the aluminum radiator I'll be going with.
