Dads ol dodge

Thanks, it is a fun one do be able to do for sure. Biggest problem for me is figuring out where to go with it as far as looks go. I'd like to give it a cool look but 3/4 ton, 2 wheel drives with 8ft beds don't lend themselves to many options..... If it was 4 wheel drive you can put some meaty tires on it or if it was a 1/2 ton short bed it would be a sweet one to lower but a 3/4 ton that's going to continue life as a hauler is just that... It will likely be left alone with maybe some nicer looking wheels with maybe a little wider tires?
Allow me to share some esthetic ideas with you: First. Think out side the box, as far as looks goes is limitless. I believe you mentioned that your Pop's is up in age right? a). Suspension: Drop it! Bags, coilovers or both, best of both world's. Second: Wheels, limitless. Stay away from chrome or polished, to much up keeping. I'd go with something "young and cool", 'Detroit Steel' Flat face (mob-steel), or something from 'Radder Wheels', go take a look at both, however, Wheels Vintique has limitless size options and colours, for a cool retro modern look. If you have disc brakes I'd start with staggered 18x8.5frt. 18x10 or 11" rr. Or even super staggered set up such as 18x8.5frt. 19x10rr. you could comfortably fit 20's all the way around. Third: Paint. leave it like it is and do a satin clear coat, if you have some surface rust, even better, sand it down clean it up but don't treat it, the satin clear coat will protect your steel.
Sh*t, that was winded. Hope I help in some way.
Cheers.
Ps. My truck, D100, single cab, long bed. Not even started on it yet, it is in the shop however getting some minor mod done here and there.

-I know this is gonna sound dumb but, is there ANY cam difference on the 318 when compared to a 360? Not something I ever looked into or done but is a good ques6tion to see if there is any gain as (with my brain) ought to be interchangeable...... IF there is any significance from one to the other as far as lift, and duration and all......

All your aesthetic ideas sound great, the only thing I'd add is some sort of bed cover...... Not a "top" just a flat cover to keep crap (like snow) out of the bed, to protect it some what. -Just an idea!

I want to drop this truck but it's dad's and he doesn't dig dropped trucks, to him a truck is a truck. I agree about the chrome and polished wheels, I personally hate chrome with a passion! It's the one thing you can't fix yourself and cost an absolute fortune to have done not to mention the maintenance. As far as clearing the rust goes........ nah. After all of this work I want it all nice and shiny looking like new. I've seen some cool rusty rods, just not my thing.

Don't know if they are the same or not? It will likely be garaged when it's done and still used for hauling so we don't want the inconvenience of any covers on the bed. It will however get a really goid coating of bedliner.

Bed liner is good!!!!! BE SURE that you have a few "drain holes" drilled in the bed up near the cab for water to leak out AFTER the bed liner is applied....Total sealing it up isn't good, as trapped water is what ruins bed floors.

I feel you 747. After all is for Dad. Get the paint shiny and as for suspension keep it stock and get yourself, (for Dad) "I think it starts in '98" Dodge Ram steelie's. These are spare wheels and they come in 18"-22", they look awesome! Leave it black or paint'em.

How about a simple RV grind for the cam ? It would wake up the lil 318 . Give it better power and torque , and probably get better millage to boot . And it wouldn't be to radical for your father . Just an idea .

True, but might be easier to find a bit better quality cam without hunting for the holly grail..... I'm not sure how easy or how difficult a RV 318 cam might be to get. IF anything a higher output 360 cam might be easier and even cheaper to get........that is, if there is any difference between the 2

Even if he found something close to that , I think would work out pretty good were it's his fathers truck and it doesn't sound like his father would be interested in anything to sick . You can get a lot out of those 318's without having to do a ton of work. I built a 318 for a 78 Ramcharger years ago and when I was done it had plenty of torque , more then enough power to tow a race car out of state and got an average of 17 mpg even with the full time four .

Update, broke down and ordered the upper control arms for $300.00, dropped the leaves off to get new mains made and have everything else needed to set it back on it's wheels. Leaves are being finished today, control arms showed up Wed and the rest of the parts are in but I'll be gone all weekend so nothing will get done...... erhhh

Looks like I'll be tearing into the motor within a week and getting the ball rolling on the body!

You found new control arms for it ? Cool ! Who had them ? I'm curious on what you end up doing to the motor as well . Enjoy your week end but keep us posted when you get back .

The only place I could find them was on Ebay. Can't remember the brand... maybe MH???? I'm sure they're likely made out of Chinesiam chit but that's all I could find. Look decent enough.

I used to be able to get them loaded from my supplier but they stopped selling them and I haven't been able to find anyone else that still has them . It was great when you had to replace a bent , damaged , or badly rusted one . Compared to what you just paid for yours , they were cheaper as well .

There you go guys, doesn't show the brand but does show the supplier. Hope it helps someone.

THANK YOU 747!! It sure the heck helps me. Now, my questionn to you, how low will it be on my '72 D100? I'm gonna go on that site now!
Gosh, I'm so stuck on lowering my truck, I'ma thinking of lowering CA's... Stuck in my own head. However thank's for sharing WSD with us, they have it all, as far as Uppers and lower CA's.
Cheers.
